HCC 1997 Tour match, in Leeds against "Leeds Doctors", 1997 This match took place on Saturday 6th September 1997, which was also the date of the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. It was a very strange day, with all the "tourists" watching the funeral in stony silence in the morning (hence the black ribbons being worn). As I recall, we lost narrowly in the last over. I seem to remember batting at the time and not being able to get the Doctor's final bowler off the square in the last over (some things don't change). It turned out the bowler was a guy called Kumar Basu, who ended up moving to Nottingham and playing for us for some years. Not only did he regularly top our bowling averages in this time, but he also won the overall League bowling award one year, with an average of about 5.5 runs per wicket! One year, he won both our bowling and batting averages... Back Row L to R. Kath Belk (Scorer), Jonathan Pears, John Houghton, Tim Broadhead, Martin Foulds, David Stead, Peter Belk (Umpire) Front Row Neil Smith, Mark Sibbering (Captain, I think), Tam Azam , Richard Hind, Cieran Laughlin, Paul Lewis
HCC 1996 Friendly Match away at Bulcote, possibly 1996 I remember driving back from holiday in order to make this game, but I don't remember much about it, other than I'm pretty sure we lost. Bulcote's is (was?) a very strange ground; being in Mr Fish the Builder's back garden. It was so close to other houses that local rules tried to discourage dangerous "big" hitting in these directions, by not awarding any runs for sixes! This was the only game I ever played with Chris Rantz, who ended up in hospital, having split the webbing between two of his fingers (daft what you remember???) Back Row L to R. James Appleby, John Houghton, Paul Lewis, Chris Rantz, Norman Potter, Simon Massey Front Row Masoom Akhtar, Rashid Akhtar, James Hunter, Andy Haynes, Rob Woollacott
