Hoveringham Cricket Club

About Hoveringham Cricket Club

The village of Hoveringham lies in the valley of the river Trent, roughly halfway between Nottingham and Newark. Mentioned in the Doomsday book, the hamlet is a typical twenty-first century dormitory settlement with a population of approximately 300. Although the village shop and post office closed some time ago, it retains two public houses (the Reindeer and Marquis of Granby) and has a strong community spirit. The cricket club has strong traditions and includes a good number of villagers amongst its members.

To ensure the survival of the club, a number of initiatives in recent years have increased membership. Two teams are regularly fielded: a league side which competes in the South Nottinghamshire Village Cricket League and a Sunday side which plays friendlies - almost invariably at home - against a varied group of opponents.

The club is an example of English tradition at its best. We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors during the season - come and enjoy a refreshing drink enlivened by the sight of eleven men in white performing on the greensward.
